Cathal is 30 years old and comes from Scarriff in Co. Clare. He went to primary school at St Joseph’s School for the Visually Impaired in Drumcondra, Dublin and subsequently attended Pobalscoil Rossmini Secondary School also in Drumcondra.
Having completed his education, Cathal moved back home to Scarriff where he lives with his parents Mary and Sean. No stranger to travel, he works approximately 50 miles from home in Tesco in Mitchelstown, Co Cork.
Cathal went on a ski holiday in 2002 to Austria with the National Council for the Blind Ireland (NCBI) and this is where his interest in skiing began. With no ski slopes available in Co. Clare, he joined the Kilternan Karvers Special Olympics Ski Club in Dublin and he regularly makes the 200km trip from Scarriff to Dublin to train with the Club.
In his spare time Cathal enjoys watching all sports and he particularly loves having the opportunity to attend hurling matches.
