Lorraine joined Special Olympics in the mid 1990’s when she became a member of the Kilternan Karvers Special Olympics Club. A very experienced athlete she has competed in two previous World Winter Games in Alaska and Japan.

More recently she joined the Blue Dolphins Special Olympics Club in Wicklow where she trains and competes in swimming. She has taken part in Regional and Special Olympics Ireland Games in the aquatics competition.

In her spare time, Lorraine loves Irish Dancing. Inspired by ‘Riverdance’, she was a late starter at the age of 26 but she passed her grade 1 exams in 2008 and took part in two feiseanna that same year. She hopes to pass her grade 2 exams during 2009.

Lorraine has also been horse riding for over 20 years and holds her Equestrian Accreditation which enables her to work in the industry. She is an occasional jogger and was part of the Bank of Ireland Athletics Club which went to South America in 2006. Lorraine is currently employed with Bank of Ireland.

Through the Athlete Leadership Programme she has made speeches at Special Olympics events and has also appeared on television representing Special Olympics Ireland. Her exploits with Special Olympics are a source of great pride for her family, friends, employer and her fellow employees.
