Families Diaries
Friday 13th February
Up early and down for breakfast as the races were to start early today.
Then we received some bad news, Charlie's Mum and dad were called away, Charlie was unwell, being sick during the night and running a fever.
With no other option we headed up to Bogus, getting little bits of info on the way up. Hoping beyond reason Charlie would rally, but to no avail he was on medication and a drip for fluids and feeling somewhat better but no possibility of competing.
We were all devastated, for him, his family and friends, the coaches and his team.
With a new mantra the athletes approached the races, "let's do it for Charlie"!
Loraine grabbed Silver, Ryan Gold, Cathal Silver; Rebecca
Bronze, Ben took the Gold nothing less ….. for Charlie.
Volunteers' Diaries
Day 7 - Thursday 12 Feb
Some of the guys went to the Ice Skating in town this afternoon to see Vice President Joe Biden, but at the floor hockey we had a busy day with lots of games.
It was the first day of medal games. This is down to business now, so we had to be on our toes. The medals decided today were all in the lower divisions, for Athletes with lower level of ability. That didn’t meant that there wasn’t the same effort put in.
This evening some of us met us with a few of the referees form the floor hockey at the Ha'Penny Bridge bar. We are becoming like a big family.
Day 6 Wednesday 11 Feb
Today nearly all the volunteers were on for a full day at the floor hockey. It was the final day of round-robin games.
This evening we all had a night off without scheduled entertainment, so many of us took the chance to get an earlyish night.
We had yet more news from the mountain, with more medals won by team Ireland. Well done guys!!!
